CCArchive
I am fascinated by the reasoning behind the "enviromental" arguments against HS2, we have a ballasted railway carrying two tracks, the ballasted area has a crossection of about 10 metres and then a seeded batter either side. Maximum traffic level likely to be a tran every 5 minutes in each direction and no petrol or diesel fumes on site. In practical term the area and impact will be similar to a very quiet country lane. It is NOT the fucking M25!! But if you following the reasoning and arguments being used by the objectors you would think that it was 1,000 feet wide. Back in dearest Devon the A380 Kingskerwell bypass is being built, its 3.5 miles will occupy the same space as about 15 miles of HS2 and the residents of Kingskerwell will find that their ear will be assualted from either side and the fumes will sink down into their valley .. but no protests.
