I think you are being intentionally obtuse. Both the articles you cite are behind paywalls, but as far as I can gather they are both vague prediction pieces about sectors that might do well post-Brexit. The sort of vague promise we heard time and again from the usual sources, now concerning themselves with China, Wokism or some other cause to stoke the public about. Without specific examples the sources are unlikely to outweigh the litany of stories and examples in wide circulation of businesses, often family small businesses started pre-war, going to the wall under the new rules. Just as many are moving some or all of their business to an EU state, often on the advice of HMG. You aren’t in the least bothered by them, clinging to the Brexit rock as the tide of reality goes out around you and victim-blaming the businesses for their fecklessness. By now it’s no longer a question of truth, it’s a question of belief, and as an avowed cultist I look forward to seeing you face down in the Kool-Aid punch bowl.

I do not wish to see Britain fail. It’s still home to many people I care about. But you and your kind will own your shit, I assure you. Don’t come crying to the rest of us when Rishi squeezes your ovaries raw in a few weeks.

As for my decision to emigrate, it was as I’ve said before a multi factorial decision, and yes my wife wanted to see her elderly family for a while after a prolonged spell in the UK. As it turned out it was a stroke of timing genius, given what COVID has done to both places. I don’t believe it makes me a sap to sign up to “happy wife, happy life”, but then given I suspect you’ve not been happy since menarche and Mr Roops wouldn’t cross the street for you much less the globe, I appreciate it’s a hard concept.

So bollocks to you, I’m off for a surf. I’ll let you get back to refereeing grievances.

"Truth" is purely in the eye of the beholder when it comes to the future, because that's not set. The "truth" is that it's far too early to tell what the outcome of Brexit will be. It will take decades to know whether it was sensible and it can't be judged by the short term pain admittedly being suffered by some.

It's clear you were and are anti-Brexit. No problem with that, but you do bang the drum a little too loudly now you're out of the loop. Fortunately not as loudly as Pansy does though, despite it really being of fuck all concern to the pig-shit thick paddy.

Can't say I was overly enthusiastic about it myself, but we are where we are and it's better to just get on with it now.

The reality is that if the opportunities that Brexit provides are used well it has a chance of providing huge benefits to the country, if they're not then it could be a shit sandwich. So the question is not was Brexit sensible, but are our leaders capable of making the most of it? Hmmmm

The problem with the “make the best of it” argument though is that it lets the mis-sellers entirely off the hook. Nowhere in the preamble to the 2016 vote will you find the high priests of Brexit continually warning of, as you put it, short term pain in return for possible benefits decades down the track. Those who did warn of economic shock were pilloried as unpatriotic idiots who were in the pocket of Jonny foreigner. People who commit fraud don’t just get to shrug and say “oh well, better make the most of it” from the dock.

The whole project was a con, cooked up in some very shady places, and sold to a gullible, angry public all too willing to believe that the reason they felt so left behind after a decade of austerity was the influx of Poles to their suburban idyll. Cameron in particular, a lifelong opportunist and bullshit artist, gambled on political gain and lost. It’s not good enough to just say to people “move on” when they have been mugged.

Farage will own his shit. Forever. The toad looks pretty miserable these days, does he not?

I am just wondering if in five years time we will still be stuck in Brexit or whether people will have moved on? Actually the arguments are no longer relevant Covid has seen to that, we will simply be unable to work out where we would have been. Prior to World War Two the UK had its own new works programme which would have seen new roads improvements to the railways and other infrastructure projects. what is likely is that we would have seen our first motorways such as the M1 and M6 opened sometime in the mid to late 1940s but that is only conjecture. In practical terms it set us back by at least 15 years and the financial effects lasted more than 20 years. The effects of Covid are likely to be similar.

Yay me!

What @Goober said...

"squeeze your ovaries"? "menarche"? For all your eloquent and pseudo-rarefied prose you're no different to the gammons you despise by reverting to LCD sniping when challenged.

What's what? Menarche; think school shower scene in "Carrie'!

More to the point, the giant German chemical multi-national BASF has reported unacceptable blocks and delays at UK borders since January. Yeah... they aren't a small unprepared inefficient company are thet? Fucking amateur excuse churning from the Brexit Lobby Group, AKA how to patrol the Channel in a secondhand rubber dinghy and back up paddle boat.

Bit racist / fascist.

You might get thrown out of the Provisional wing of the Socialist Workers Party, even allowing for Mummy and Daddy pulling a few strings behind the scenes for you

Somewhat off topic here, Jigs, but I was just wondering if you'd had money on this particular nag?

Yeah - it's the talk of the horse racing village today.

Elliott's been a Grade A prick no doubt about it, but a hefty fine and warning to future conduct seems just.

Of course, he'll have to handle any fallout to his business if owners decide to remove their horses from his care. His biggest owner (Giggingstown Stud, aka the O'Leary's aka the owners of Ryan Air) have said they'll stick with him. We'll have to see about the rest

I'd imagine Withers and his fellow countrymen are salivating at this sight. I bet there was rich pickings after the Mosquitoes strafed the shit out of his homeland in the 1940's.
