Isn't that what Putin is doing to Russia? The UK alone has got a quarter of a trillion in Russian assets under lock and key. Russia's annual GDP is 1.5 trillion. The rouble is now worth fuck all and he can't sell any debt bonds to pay for public services. Interest rates are at 20% and he'll have to raise them even more soon. Just about every western owned business is pulling out of Russia which will mean mass lay offs and millions applying for unemployment benefits he can't pay. How long until people can't afford to even pay for food and riots start? The only thing he's got is energy money but that won't cover his overheads for long. His army is getting the shit kicked out of it and is abandoning its heavy equipment left, right and centre because he can't keep it fuelled and fed. 

Soon wounded soldiers will start arriving home telling their relatives how Russian generals are getting picked off for fun and the mighty Russian army's tanks are burning wrecks littering the roads of Ukraine because they're sitting ducks for modern NATO anti tank weaponry. How long until Putin can't keep a lid on it anymore and his reserves start to mutiny because they don't want to get turned into a pile of dog food to serve the ego of a paranoid old man who can't let the USSR go?

Zelensky has got the economic might of the west behind him, Putin's got a half hearted China who is getting embarrassed by its association with him. Russia may be able to destroy Ukraine's cities but its population are prepared to fight to the death for the ruins and any Russian should know what that did for kraut morale at Stalingrad.

I think he'll see it out. If the Russians kill him, he's a martyr. If they capture him and put him on "trial" like Putin has threatened to do, the west is going pour through every Russian attack on civilian areas and hand the lot to the international war crimes tribunal with a view to indicting Putin and his generals. 

From what I can gather, there is no way out of Kiev by air now so if he was going, I think he would have done it already. 

On a slightly different note, I've just seen 6ft 10in Vitali Klitschko dressed in battle fatigues carrying a general purpose machine gun. I suspect he may be planning an Arnold style rampage in a last ditch attempt to halt the Russian advance.
