Renowned as a skilled worker, the compliments inevitably went to his head, hence his foray into aviation and a career soon thwarted by the untimely death of his test pilot Icarus. The lack of development of lightweight wing materials back in ancient Greece meant that Daedalus's first attempt at a man/Bi-plane hybrid was doomed to failure. Icarus, clearly a precursor to Top guns Maverick flew too close to the sun and the wax binding the feathers melted. Icarus fell to the sea and sunk to the bottom taking Daedalus's ambitions with him.
