  1. On the contrary, LCS... Aside for a short time when I started as a health professional, I've always worked in the industrial and manufacturing sector. I did spend a few years as an analyst for a private equity partnership but despite the obscene amounts of money I became bored and returned to the coalface.
  2. ...or, to flip the facetious logic, we should continue to kiss the Brussels boot, acquiesce to an entity whose only answer to a problem is to in hoover up yet more power, sovereignty and money in order to regulate every aspect of society both financially and the way we live our lives, but hey, its' all good - in return the bureaucrats will knock 10% off the price of a few slivers of salty ham.
  3. Its a mess to be sure, caused by elements of the remain campaign refusing to accept a democratic referendum result, a weakened PM trying to please everyone but alienating them instead and a piss-poor Brexit negotiating team who didn't play hard ball at the outset.
  4. Because it exposes the fallacy that Honda's decision was based solely on Brexit. There were other world-wide considerations at play which were set in motion four years ago.
  5. ...and foods from outside the EU that will no longer attract the 50% import tariff imposed by EU diktats.

Naïve rather than thick, but then she's had four years of extremist programming. All this mob shouting about burning and banning will not only make her a martyr to the extremist cause but its effectively treating the symptom, not the disease. Javid is playing tough for the masses and covering his own arse, "hey, I tried, but the judges, aka the enemy of the people, said I was acting illegally".

Double Jeopardy applies to new material evidence not known at a previous trial. It does not provide for new legislation, which as I commented on previously, cannot be applied retrospectively.
  8. Honda finally released a statement regarding its global strategy. This is broadly in line with my earlier assertion that regional manufacturing units will survive only if there is a domestic demand peculiar to that region. Honda clearly thinks that there is no demand for electric cars in Europe at present. The demand is in China which is why Dyson decamped to Singapore which, unlike the UK and the EU, has a free trade agreement with the Chinese. Its worth noting that Honda will still base its European HQ in the UK to service the needs of its European customers.
  9. Unless UK trade ministers have got it in for the citizens of Parma, I would be surprised if Italian sourced hams attract anything higher than the 10% WTO rate. I don't foresee much middle-class anger from Tunbridge Wells as up-market foodstuffs have what the economists call a "high elasticity of demand".
  10. Well, no apologies forthcoming from me. May I suggest you avoid reading my posts in future and so avoid further onslaughts of boredom?
  11. I imagine the purpose is to avoid financial liabilities should the whole project crash to the ground.

Commend it as much as you like, new legislation cannot be applied retrospectively.

Begum's mother (whom she was very close to) died before the former smuggled herself to ISIL.. I appreciate I'm with a very small minority in the court of public opinion, but this is a classic case of a vulnerable teenager with an emotional void being worked over by the radicalisers.
  14. Bollox Read the linked article from one of Fleet Street most avid pro-remain cheerleaders. I presume you meant the SMMT reports and whilst you may be correct, again Brexit is a factor, but there are two underlying causes which is impacting on long term results. Firstly motor manufacturers are retrenching worldwide because of over capacity and secondly there is uncertainty over diesel engines and how governments will deal with pollution.
  15. Whilst the uncertainty of Brexit was a contributing factor to Honda's decision to leave, it was not *the* factor. The seeds to Swindon's fate was planted four years ago when Takahiro Hachigo was appointed as the new CEO and President of Honda. As is typical of most new CEOs, he undertook a root and branch review of the business. Honda's main issue was that its' manufacturing capacity far exceeded the volume of cars sold worldwide. The CEO was brutally honest with his assessment of the product development process which involved not only the designers and engineers but also the marketing and sales departments, the latter more fixated on short term needs. The development process was protracted and overly complex. The result was that Honda cars were designed by committee and as such were "uninspiring". Three years ago Honda slimmed down the product development team to the designers and engineers and undertook a retrenchment process to simplify manufacturing and uniformity of product unless a regional bloc was profitably producing cars to suit the demands of its locality. Swindon's fate was from then on sealed.

I'm pretty certain I'm not iota deficient, nor am I an apologist. I've made it clear that she should face the full investigative and judicial process in the UK, a sentiment shared today by Lord Dannatt, the former Chief of General Staff or maybe you believe he is short of an iota or two.

If you recall we were arguing over Ms Begum and her child's nationality. For reasons that aren't entirely clear you cited an American citizenship test to determine British nationality. As for the remainder of the confusing gibberish I see you've mentioned "The golden rule of justice is the pound of flesh" in four successive posts. Again, its not too clear what Shylock's penalty to Antonio (from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice) over an unpaid debt has to do with the situation at hand, nor indeed your Greek crime example. As far as we know Ms Begum and her child is not suspected of any crime in the former caliphate. The irony is she wishes to return to the one country where she risks criminal prosecution.

Fact, not opinion as unpalatable as that may be to you. I've previously intimated that Ms Begum should face due legal process. May I suggest you broaden your news sources and be less reliant on RT news? Your approach is somewhat confusing, one moment your promoting rough and ready or non existent justice, the next you're bitching about illegalities.

You're referring to the principle of Jus Soli (right of soil) a principle adhered to by the USA and some part of the Americas. In the UK as with Europe and mostly the rest of the world the principle of Jus Sanquinis (right of blood) prevails. As Ms Begum is British and not American your point is without merit.
  20. Mrs Roops

    Shamina Begum

Gosh I hope not. In the UK, nationality is principaly determined by the legal principle of Jus Sanquinis - look it up and be schooled.

To be honest, you are flying off so many different tangents on this that its hard to discern what your general argument is. Lets establish some facts before I throw in my tuppence worth. Sharmeena Begum entered ISIL via Turkey on a "borrowed" passport. Ms Begum is a British Citizen, as would be her child no matter where he/she is born. For all the recent political posturing by British politicians her British nationality cannot be revoked. Ms Begum is currently in an American backed, Kurdish administered refugee camp. The geopolitical situation is very fluid but for the moment its the Kurdish authorities' call as to what happens to her next. So far, it is accepted that Ms Begum's role in ISIL was that of a non-combatant. For all the rhetoric about "treachery" I think we should be more concerned as to what compelled a British schoolgirl to leave home, family and friends and settle in the ISIL hell-hole. She has remarked that ISIL deserved to lose and witnessed a female friend being beaten to death for attempting to escape. I'm not convinced that she "knew what she was doing" - as a fifteen year old she simply did not posses the rational processing facilities of an adult and in all probability she still doesn't. By all accounts, her domestic situation in the UK was challenging and I suspect she was manipulated and radicalised fairly easily. I'm also concerned about the one innocent in all this, her unborn child. She should be bought back, questioned, take whatever judicial punishment as prescribed by law, de-radicalised and monitored and then find the people responsible for brainwashing her and others and deal with them accordingly.

Legend has it that seemingly decent people morph into half-human half-wolf hybrids on nights when there is a full moon. Nothing in your post explains the discrepancy of one million. By all means express an opinion but if you are going to embellish a POV by being economical with the actualité then expect to be called out.

The last census (2011) recorded just short of half a million Bangladeshis living in the UK so your figure of over one and half million is a bit suspect. Not sure you can blame Tetley's either, though coincidently the firm has been owned by Tata since 2000. Why would anyone bring in tea-pickers to a country where no tea leaves are cultivated?

For me, the defining moment that exposed Blair was during PMQs. He was asked what did he and his government stand for. Blair, normally a quick thinking and competent dispatch box performer was clearly flummoxed and mumbled something about the NHS and the appointment of Magdi Yacoub. I'm sure that at the start of his parliamentary career he started with good soft socialist intentions, but along the way he succumbed to red carpet fever and became fascinated with wealth. Post premiership his LLP consultancy has earned a fortune advising disreputable regimes mainly former Soviet States. That said, his preoccupation as PM was to leave a legacy - he was an admirer of Mrs Thatcher and her legacy and part explains why he did not pass the baton to Gordon Brown sooner than he did. Well, he has got his legacy and will be forever remembered, though not in the way he hoped.
