I have a soft spot for Deltics and Sulzer Peaks. Proper, solidly built British locomotives.

I have a lot of respect for all the larger Sulzer engine locos, they did the job without making too much fuss about it.

The Deltic engine has always fascinated me. Brilliant engineering.

I loved seeing the photos of the Deltic reunion they did a few years back:

Presumably quite unusual for the prototype to survive?

Yes, but another English Electric prototype also survived in the form of the 500bhp 0-6-0  diesel electric at The Keighley and Worth Valley

I'm too young to appreciate them, really, but I enjoyed the sound of a 37 or 47 on full chat. I remember the first 66 (66006) I saw was something of a revelation at the time. A totally different beast with a more American engine note.

There is also a replica Baby Deltic nearing completion at Barrow Hill .. it is being converted from the bodyshell of a Class 37
