  1. A mate took it as a trade-in, too good to scrap but It needed a suspension arm and back discs so wasn't worth it to him. In 50 years of "motoring" I've never paid anyone to work on a car or a bike and I've never spent more than a grand on a car.
  2. I've heard that dental techniques in Kurdistan have come along recently.
  3. No, I paid 350 for it jn February (with 5 good tyres and half a tank of fuel).
  4. I'm sure there were but they were of no more interest to me then than they are now. I doubt they were any less unpleasant then either.
  5. No, I think it was the rear suspension attacking the back seats.
  6. No idea, I wouldn't have heard over the row from the rest of it.
  7. I've got a '97 diesel A4 estate. It's a fucking nice car for £350. I bet it was expensive when it was new.
  8. I had an Austin 1100 in the '70s and a Maestro van in the '80s. Neither was particularly musical, although the van had a squeaky door.
  9. I saw Patti Smith when she first came here; she showed a load of incomprehensible B&W films and whined about her guitar being a machine gun (it might as have been because she couldn't fucking play it). Most of her lyrics were about poofs and junkies in NY and hardly relevant in the real world. She's best known for Gloria and Because the Night, both written by blokes. Stevie Nicks and the other bint fucked up a truly great blues band and made shite radio-friendly dinner-party music. Who the fuck is Pat Benatar? Suzi Quattro had a nice arse. None of them could hold a candle to this woman:
  10. French President Emmanuel Macron, who was on a visit to Albania, said: "Europe has been shaken." Good job it doesn't affect us then.
  11. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-67082443 Diesel fires usually produce clouds of black smoke. The flames go upwards. LR hybrids have their batteries under the left front seat. the area from where the flames are shooting sideways and downwards. The rear lights are still on, presumably because the vehicle has just been parked, it's unlikely that the 12v system is compromised enough to have started the fire. It'll be interesting to see what the insurance bods make of this.
  12. Either that or they seem to think that The Archers is a guide to rural life.
  13. One of the more amusing things about Londoners is thet they think that anyone else gives a fuck about what goes on there. Unfortunately, as they have allowed the place to become uninhabitable, the twats have taken to infesting the rest of the country. It's like being on the set of Eastenders, fucking Cockney Wankahs and pathetic Kray wannabees in every village.
  14. Judging by his use of punctuation, I don't think he's done it deliberately; it's just a spelling mistake.
  15. It's on the same shelf as a couple of Tintin books and that Agathe Christie novel that's been renamed as many times as it's been filmed.
  16. Apparently some children in Worcester couldn't manage a walk of less than a couple of miles and got scared of the dark. It made the national news. Someone's life will be made hell for trying to give some kids some self-confidence. How did we get so fucking wet? https://www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/23835913.parents-anger-cubs-found-alone-dangerous-road/
  17. I can't see what's wrong it. As long as this sort of thing happens only at shite kiddie-pop gigs. Rockbitch used to get up to much more interesting stuff on stage and no-one got excited about it. they just banned them.
  18. And from as far away as Iceland. most of the "smuggers'" hideouts in romantic Cornish legends were actually built to escape Barbary pirates, not the excise men. After Britain became the first European nation to outlaw slavery, the Yanks started breeding their own slaves in specialised farms. The Royal Navy (at least 10% of whose crews were black) fought slavery, not just in the Atlantic but in the Pacific, the Gulf and in the eastern Med. The British exchequer spent more money stopping the trade than it ever made from it.
  19. The countries that were responsible for most (about 80%) of the triangular trade, Spain and Portugal, don't seem keen to "celebrate" this kind of thing. Neither do the South American states that the poor bastards were sent to. The vast majority of slaves taken from sub-saharan Africa went to The Arabian countries, usually via Zanzibar. Benin became rich on it and used the proceeds to embellish their palaces with bronze castings, made from material obtained by trading with Europeans.
  20. Maybe if their blokes stopped referring to them like that, they'd be more polite.
  21. Isn't there a US version of this site, where nominations of stuff that simply don't matter here can be voiced?
