It is possibly a rumour spread by either the anti cannabis brigade, or big pharma competition not wanting their expensive formulas being undermined by something as natural as cannabis. There was a spurious link between cannabis and schizophrenia a few years ago when statistics were manipulated, they basically asked schizophrenics if they had ever smoked cannabis. They did not ask if the symptoms were present before taking it. If it was that bad there would be a huge increase of nutters where cannabis is legal and this has not happened. Not such a spurious link. I saw quite a number of young lads smoke themselves into the asylum. But it was strongly associated with the more recent stronger hybrids. Some of them were pretty strange . The Merkin Govt recently admitted that cannabis oil kills cancer cells. Cannabis oil is getting a lot of publicity on social media these days.
