My logic for that thought back then, was due to it being completely separate from the land mass of England, Wales and Scotland. It looked an anomaly this section of a separate country, (northern Ireland) claimed or claiming to be part of the UK. Not a lot has changed in my opinion in the last 30 odd years, despite speaking to the belligerents of both sides and learning the history. Let the Irish reunite and crack on with self rule, one side is bound to come out on top eventually, it's inevitable however I don't feel like a civil war would ensue!
