This debate has been raging for some time now and the views expressed on this thread, whether knee-jerk and emotional, or more considered, are not new. It is important to not ignore any of them as this is a snapshot of how people are feeling and where this and many other countries could be going if something constructive is not done.

The "true solution" would be to go back in time many, many years and for everyone not to do all of the things that has led us to this point in the first place, whether that is European colonialism, destabilising or invading sovereign countries such as Libya or Iraq, or simply not planning immigration with integration properly.

As that is impossible, the only real solution is likely to be multilateral and unified and require significant time, planning and resources. Targeting and alienating whole swathes of people because of their religion is not the answer. This will serve only to create two things: an environment where extremism and associated terrorism becomes a logical response to even more people; and an environment where the most horrific atrocities such as have been perpetrated in the past could occur again. A more constructive approach would be to pursue and prosecute terrorists and those who support and promote terrorism, whilst simultaneously working with communities and religious leaders (Islamic leaders) to reform where necessary and make it absolutely clear that killing of innocents, committing acts of suicide and generally being a cunt is not only contrary to the tenants of Islam, but also going to result in ending up in the firey depths of hell. To support this, there will be a need for education and integration from all sides so that the racism and intolerance that is quite palpable at the moment can be slowly but surely reduced.

Unfortunately, all of this is going to require strong leaders who genuinely want to create peace rather than continue populist and nationalistic agendas that serve their own purposes. Looking at what's on offer from across the globe, we would seem to be shit out of luck. Corbyn has expressed some good ideas, but it would be like a one armed man trying to clap in an empty auditorium.

It's not contrary to the tenants of Islam to kill infidels. There is roughly one hundred verses talking about killing infidels in the Quoran. The religious leaders can preach all they want but as long as the loophole exists it will continue to be exploited, and seeing as criticizing Islam is blasphemy the religious leaders are never going to seek to reform the writings.

Exactly. Religion should be an entirely personal experience confined to churches, mosques and synagogues. None of that white should be allowed on the streets as it only divides people.

I don't disagree with most of this. Every organised religion as far as I am concerned is all pretty silly and seems to revolve around the wearing of strange hats. The trouble is, as with the cases you have already pointed out, if religious freedom is not a given in a mature, secular society, then it will inevitably break down and chaos will ensue until a balance can be reached. A society without freedom of thought is not one that I want to live in and you can't have one without the other.

To conclude though, as I'm on my third Guinness foreign extra and capacity for sentient thought is diminishing, the royals are a bunch of cunts and can fuck right off. Extremists are cunts and so are suicide bummers.

Read the article in the link if you are interested as a smarter, more informed person than I am wrote it. I know fuck all about Islam in reality, but so do most people and that is the trouble. I don't have a problem with people believing in anything, so long as they have a positive and constructive impact on society and the world in general.
