The answer is to inoculate with bivalent, or even better, with quadrivalent vaccines which cover several (best guess) anticipated variants in one shot. These are already available with the traditional range of vaccines but mRNA shots, with its statistically proven safety record and much lower rejection rates, is preferred. Fast forward a decade and we have all the major players in a race to develop not only a quadrivalent Seasonal Influenza vaccine but a vaccine that combines an influenza prophylactic which also deals with whatever version of covid is currently prevalent. Your story, which you seem to creaming yourself over is about Moderna's prospective bivalent Seasonal Influenza vaccine which has hit a snag in Phase 3 trials with the Type 'B' virus.
