There was an RN veteran who used to drink in the same legion as my dad many years back. He was a lifelong amateur photographer and served on the Arctic convoys. He showed me some of the stuff that he took when the opportunity arose and most of it was pretty shocking. The U-Boats had a fucking field day because sonar was practically useless due to the currents in the Arctic and when a ship got torpedoed the rest of the convoy were under orders to keep going. Defo some scary shit alright. It was an absolute scandal that it took MoD nearly 70 years to issue campaign medals.

My paternal Grandad was an NCO artillery specialist at Imphal when it was surrounded by 4 Jap divisions. They managed to stalemate the cunts into the monsoon which cut their supply lines and left them reduced to eating each other and dropping by the thousand from malaria before they got chased back across Burma. My other one was in Greece, North Africa and D-Day. I never knew him unfortunately as he died a couple of years before I was born.
