There isn't much that can be done to deter or stop a person intent on robbery. Neighbourhood Watch schemes, alarms and window-locks etc. don't put them off either. It's a game of chance to them and even if they do get caught, what do they get? Most victims of burglary would also argue that the police don't do much either unless physical violence is involved.
