Well, trade-wise the UK is not "OUTSIDE". Granted, its not as frictionless as before but trade to and from the EU still tariff-free. Aside from the issue I alluded to in my previous post I can only reiterate that the EU is a mature market i.e. there is no opportunity for growth - essential for any business and nation to survive as growth provides for increased revenues and tax receipts. With that in mind any European nation needs to trade successfully beyond the EU and without an army of eurocracts interfering every step of the way.

The real problem is that we should have been in at the very start as a senior partner. Had we done so it might have evolved in a better balanced way that took the UK's geographical situation into account Joining later doomed us to being at best a junior member. Another factor was that the then Common market have evolved from the German/Franc focused Steel & Coal Community so it may well have been destined to be focused upon the interests of France & Germany regardless.

If by mature and no oportunity for growth you mean back to back comparisons of growth and productivity with the UK economy since the financial crisis then I can't see what point you are making.

De Valera was a slippery cunt who also permitted their spies to be dropped in Ireland and was more than happy to pass on intelligence too.

Yes. God forbid we try and get out of the downward spiral under our own power instead of subscribing to a membership to a club that has always seen us as backwards outsiders only good for our membership fee, immigrant storage and armed forces (which suspiciously all started favouring EU flags just before we left).

I think your notion that the UK wanted to leave due to the "humiliation" in appearing at the bottom of some economic league table is...fanciful to say the least.

Have a look at this snapshot of EU countries - the findings may be of a surprise to you. By your own theory, France and Germany should be making their excuses to get out.

Now have a look at this simplistic graph,

Quite simply in terms of growth, the EU economy is stagnant because of its mature market, not helped by the inward looking protectionism that prohibited member states from making unilateral trade deals with the rest of the world.

Finally, whilst one has to admire your idealism, you are doing yourself no favours with your sub-par fifth form economic theory. It comes across as a bit Dave Spart.

What you're referring to was a small part of Plan W which involved re-occupying the whole of Ireland and would have been enacted if Hitler had gone ahead with Operation Sea lion. Even if one believed the colourful graphics it doesn't advance or support one jot of the argument for Brexit. Expecting the UK to magically sprout a pair of wings and start flying round the world signing trade deals is not what modern logistics is built on.
