This is lazy reporting and is a symptom of the BBC rearranging the chairs by paring down the number of specialist journo's in favour of generalists with an eye on the flavour-of-the-moment headlines.

The EU retailers are having supply issues of their own and are using Brexit red tape as an excuse. Quite simply the supply issues are caused by a world-wide shortage of containers (more noticeable with 40ft units) that is far exceeding supply. Regular motorway drivers may have noticed less container lorries lately. Container rentals have increased fourfold which has had a knock-on effect on air freight costs. Exporters are having to hire 2 x 20ft containers for trans-oceanic routes which means double port handling fees. The demand for the 20 ft units which are primarily for local sea routes are impacting on S.E. Asian component suppliers to final assembly points in China. Exacerbating the situation are suppliers who were hedging bets by booking several freight forwarding agents resulting in double, triple and even quadrupling bookings of containers. The overbooking issue should abate as forwarding agents have now inserted punitive cancellation charges.

So what caused this mess when there is ample shipping capacity but not enough containers? In short Covid did. Traditionally, demand for containers always increases from June in order to cope with the Christmas demand . Then Covid entered the mix. Firstly with the lockdowns came an expediential demand for home working products and consumables as well as home exercise equipment, bicycles & accessories, most of which is sourced from China. Secondly manpower issues due to Covid affected ports world-wide causing logjams most noticeably at Los Angeles Port and Colombo.

Tragic as it is that a few niche products from Europe will be subject to our taxes, isn't it about time for cheap Chinese tat to be taxed realistically? It can't be right that  I can order crap from the other side of the world for less than the price of a UK stamp and have it arrived marked as "sales samples". Doesn't HMRC care about this?

I’ll support everyone if required with my small change, anyway I’m off to the Bahamas tomorrow so fuck the lot of you: Seyaa peasants

I was disgusted by the large number of blacks present on the handful of Caribbean islands I’ve visited in the past. The authorities really should do something about it. I assume Piers Morgans wife wouldn’t agree.

Think its because its more expense n hassle to flog stuff to y'all when there's 500 million easier customers to deal with

500 million customers will leave your ringpiece in an awful state Panzy. You might never need to worry about money again but no amount of cash can buy you a new, fully functioning anus. Unless you’re planning early retirement anyway.

350 million of them are fuckin bankrupt, then there’s your Spud-republic peasants. You may have a point, the UK scurvy tablet exporters could struggle.

They are not in the best shape indeed. And wheels are really going to come off this wagon with falling exports, bankruptcies , chinks saturating the market with cheap, subsidised products and injuns with their two Bob services. Market leaders consolidated will pull through, the rest will struggle, go under and be bought out for pennies by their competition.

Go to Bermuda, far more upmarket, bent and covert with pink beaches. Handy for the East Coast of the USA & Canada (Montreal filth bucket women who dress like elegant Europeans) and a shorter flight home for when HMRC eventually catch up with you so 2-3 hours less time in handcuffs.

He could always purchase Epstien's Island. It's not like he's gonna need it anymore. I'd like to send Punkers there under Nelson Mandela conditions.
